I think it is time for me to come out and admit that I am a Target-aholic. The husband has more than once only half-jokingly suggested that we purchase Target stock so that we would at least get a return on all the money we spend at the nationwide retail giant. But with four children, four Target stores in a five-mile radius from where we live, and Target’s coupons and sales, it is no wonder one can find us at a Target at least once a week. And come August 27, there will be more to feed this Target addiction.
This August, Target will be launching three new brands. I will focus on A New Day, Target’s new line of women’s clothing. I tried on a few outfits this past weekend, and may I say that I am in love? Clearly you’re not getting haute couture, but I found stylish, decently-made items at very affordable prices. I did not find the line to be a huge departure from the current Merona/Mossimo look and pricing, however A New Day seemed to offer more mix-and-match wear-to-work and casual items with some updated detailing. Most pieces I would consider classic styles with a twist.
This dress is a simple navy blue sheath dress. It features a key-hole button back, elastic waist (covered by the belt, not included), in a print called Xavier Navy. The construction is good, and cost only 24.99. For Solar Eclipse 2017 day, I wore it with a Banana Republic belt, wedge sandals by Splendid, Kate Spade gumdrop earrings, and my usual Michael Kors watch.
This emerald floral top was a perfect base for Sunday’s outfit. The top was only 17.99 and features a pleated bodice and lace trim at the neck. My shoes (not shown) are Target’s Merona sueded wedge, skirt by Loft. Accessories include Monica Vinader’s ‘Siren’ earrings in green onyx and a sterling Tiffany bangle.
As soon as the weather cools down enough in So Cal, I plan to make outfits like this my autumn uniform. The top is a basic 3/4-sleeve top in ebony, with chest pockets. The material is a soft rayon with 5% spandex for stretch. This is perfect for layering. Shown here with Gap perfect boot cut jeans, Aquatalia Verona boots, and Soru double-sided Baroque pearl earrings.
I was formerly of the camp disappointed in the ending of the Merona and Mossimo brands, especially since there have been good selection the last couple years, but I am excited about the changes coming to Target’s clothing lineup. See you at Target!
